CPUC is seeking a qualified and safety-focused Heavy Equipment Operator to become part of our Power Distribution.  The ideal candidate will be responsible for operating and servicing specialized heavy machinery to support the reliable and safe delivery of electrical power throughout our service area.  This position plays a vital role in maintaining distribution infrastructure, ensuring vegetation clearance along power corridors, and supporting system expansion projects.

Required Qualifications for Position
Demonstrated experience in the operation of heavy equipment in the utility, power distribution, or construction industry is highly preferred.
Working knowledge of equipment maintenance fundamentals and basic troubleshooting techniques.
Unwavering commitment to workplace safety and strict compliance with standard operating procedures and safety regulations.
Proven ability to work productively both independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively within a team environment.
High School Diploma or GED equivalent required; completion of relevant technical or vocational training is advantageous.
Valid driver's license and clean driving record preferred.
Physical ability to perform manual labor and work in various weather conditions.
Strong work ethic, reliability, and punctuality.
Responsibilities of the Position
Operate specialized heavy equipment safely and efficiently to facilitate the installation, maintenance, and repair of primary and secondary electrical distribution systems.
Conduct routine preventive maintenance on assigned equipment, including regular cleaning, fluid level checks (oil, water, hydraulic), and minor repairs to ensure optimal performance.
Provide operational support for the maintenance and servicing of electrical distribution infrastructure, including poles, transformers, conductors, meters, and customer service connections.
Assist utility crews with vegetation management activities, including tree trimming and removal operations to maintain proper clearances around distribution lines and prevent service interruptions.
Support field operations for the construction of new distribution line extensions and the installation of distribution transformers and related equipment.
Adhere strictly to all Standard Operating Procedures, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements in all work activities.
Work collaboratively with lineworkers, supervisors, and team members to uphold the highest standards of safety, quality and professionalism.
Maintain accurate records of equipment operations, maintenance activities, and safety inspections.
Respond to emergency situations and urgent service needs as required.
Perform additional job-related duties as directed by management.
